Gynecological Oncology

The Department of Gynecological Oncology deals with the prevention, early diagnosis, prompt and adequate treatment, and palliation of female cancers. The departmental library houses more than 100 books and periodicals for education and research purposes. Additionally, state-level training programs on Pap smear screening are being conducted by the department, in collaboration with the State NCD Cell, for Obstetrics and Gynecology (O&G) specialists from different districts. A state-level project on HPV self-collection and the treatment of screened positive cases is also currently being executed by the department. Furthermore, the department organizes Cervical Cancer Eradication Day on March 11th every year.

The main activities of this department include:

• Diagnosis and treatment of female genital tract malignancies


• Diagnosis of premalignant lesions and its proper treatment


• Routine screening of female population for early diagnosis of cancer cervix amongst the patients attending the outdoor of the centre


• Assisting in Mobile Cancer Detection Camps for screening of patients


• Teaching and training of M.Ch. students


• Training of Post-graduate students, in-service doctors and Para-medical workers


• Training in Gynecologic Oncology of post- PG faculties


• Undertaking research projects as priority
